I’m Steph!

Wednesday, October 10th, 2007

I live in a tiny little country called New Zealand. Just to clarify a few things with you - I don’t wear socks and “jandals” (Kiwi word for “flip-flops”), most people don’t live on farms and yes, there are more sheep than people. Most of the population have absolutely no fashion sense, so being one of the minority that actually cares about how they look is something I am very proud of. I’m half Italian and I can speak it almost fluently (if you ignore the few hundred English words thrown in).

Above: Two photos from New Zealand Fashion Week in September this year.

I go to a private, all-girls school where most people have a really preppy style (Abercrombie, Hollister etc…) but thankfully in the last few years people have started developing their own sense of style. We have to wear a very strict uniform - we aren’t allowed nail polish, jewelery or colored hair ties. We have five days a year when we are allowed to wear”mufti” (more Kiwi slang - means “non-uniform”) and whilst a lot of girls like to dress in head-to-toe designer gear, I on the other hand like to mix it up - I have no qualms about wearing a $5 vintage top with my Ksubi jeans.

I am obsessed with magazines, in fact, if I sold every magazine in my collection for a dollar, I’d probably be a millionaire. Most magazines that I read are about fashion (no surprises there) but lately I’ve been getting into interior design ones. If my lifelong dream of being the fashion editor of Vogue doesn’t work out (and lets face it, it isn’t very likely) then I would love to be an architect. In my spare time I like to shop online with money I don’t have or play the guitar.

My posts will often be about New Zealand fashion but I will also cover international fashion news. I also enjoy writing for my other blog (http://closet–space.blogspot.com) which is almost entirely about New Zealand Fashion.
I’m going to be away on holiday in Noosa, Australia for a week so my next post will be delayed until Thursday or Friday - but when I get back, expect a super cool post (hopefully I’ll be able to snap some streetstyle pics!)

So, that’s me in a nutshell.
Rock on!

Flora’s in full bloom!

Monday, October 8th, 2007

First day on the job here at LuxBuzz for yours truly, so I’m going to give you the honor of me introducing myself, and the honor of the fact that you’re reading an introductory entry from such an awesome person. Well no, not really…. So I guess I better tell you guys a little bit of personal data, just to help you see from what place I draw my experiences from.

My name is Flora, and I was born in the Chaldean-Assyrian village of Batnaya, in the… erm… is interesting a good word? Well, in the “interesting” country of Iraq. I have Armenian and Turkish heritage, as well as my Arabic heritage being Syrian/Assyrian/Chaldean/Iraqi. I speak Arabic and English, and hopefully, I’ll learn Armenian within the next year or so. Please, if you know Armenian, add me on MSN and HELP ME!

Just because I’m a narcissist, I’m going to get you into the “World of Flora”, and tell you about everything you need to know about what I may discuss with you during my stay here at Lux:

  • Music: Metal (mostly goth), Dark Wave, Reggae, Foreign Pop, Jazz, Classical, Industrial/Gothic/Hard/Experimental/Stoner Rock. However, I’ll review any music you ask me to review, and I’ll be objective.
  • Art: I love art, mostly Gothic or abstract. El Greco, Vartan Malakian, and Francis Bacon are the kings of the art world for me.
  • Politics, law and social issues: Plenty of politics, law, and social issues discussions from yours truly. This will probably be the majority of my posts.
  • No, I have no interest in posting on fashion and beauty, ever. I simply can’t bug myself to talk about things that I consider to be on a lower-priority scale.

Hope that this post gave you a good enough idea about my interests and who I am!

Salam (peace),
Flora

Hey, I’m Sheryl

Wednesday, August 8th, 2007

I’m a college student at Temple U. in Philadelphia. I’m originally from Jersey. My interests include music, movies, television, the occasional book, and fashion.

When it comes to clothes, I prefer simple, casual, comfortable, fun clothes. This all fits in with the college lifestyle. However, I don’t do sweatpants like many college students. I’m not prejudice against them, but I prefer to keep them limited to lounging and the gym. And they are simply unflattering to my body type.

I haven’t decided what new trends I’m into yet, but I will share current and old items I adore. Skinny jeans make my bum look delicious, so I see no reason for those to go away! I love Nike Dunks, Vans slip-ons, crazy patterned hoodies, ankle boots, and my Samsung K-5 (great MP3 player, but needs more memory).

I must admit that I am not a fan of those high-waisted pants that are everywhere right now.  I think only models and a select few can wear them.  Almost everyone else seems to look pudgy or mom-like in them.  I must be the black sheep here, and I’m quite possible the only person that’s not anti-legging.  I don’t wear them, but I think some people wear them well.  But I must admit, wearing them with denim minis is distasteful and outdated.

Later. Hopefully next time it’s more interesting and inspiring!

In the past, we had to wait monthly to get our fashion fix. Harper’s Bazaar only publishes once a month, after all. Luckily, times have changed. Now, fashion, beauty and all-around pop culture buzz is only a few clicks away here at LuxBuzz.

I’m Halie, a high school student blogger from Southern California. My interests? Music, movies, and yes, fashion. While my classmates are combing the mall for back-to-school jeans and flip-flops, I’ll be looking towards the runways.

This 3.1 Philip Lim look embodies fall’s trends: minidress, swingy jacket in a substantial fall fabric, opaque tights (I agree with Russ on this – no leggings, please!) and lace-up booties. For day, pair the jacket with a flouncy top and dark jeans, keeping the bottom half’s silhouette lean either way. You’ll have a charming mix of feminine and masculine – another key look.

Well, I’m out! Check back tomorrow for more LuxBuzz news.

I’m Russ!

Hi Guys!

For my first fashion blog I just wanted to tell you a little about myself and some of the trends I like and dislike. My name is Russ, or Russell, and I’m from Atlanta, Georgia. No, I don’t have a southern accent and yes, I am a guy. However, that doesn’t mean I don’t care about fashion. If I had a nickel for every time I have said something about fashion, you can bet I’d be a very rich (and fashionable) guy! Anyway, I just want to say it was an honor being selected for the job of a volunteer blogger. I look forward to get very close to you guys, my readers, and I hope I won’t disappoint!

Now, let’s get to the real purpose of this blog! I want to tell you about some trends I am seeing (new and still ongoing) that I’m either jumping for joy over or sitting in a bomb shelter waiting for them to pass.

One trend that I absolutely adore is all things bejeweled. Dresses, clutches, shoes, etc. It’s all just completely adorable! Dries Van Noten, the designer, did a collection with bejeweled shirts and jackets I still love. Also, Burberry Prorsum did a bejeweled shift coat, which Vogue captured in some of their photo shoots. I just hope the bejeweled craze lasts through the fall. Here are some examples of what I’m talking about:

Nine West Flats

Cute, right?

Now let’s talk about some trends I’m not very fond of…

The trend I hate more than hate itself is…leggings. I know leggings are necessary sometimes when you want to wear the cute (but just a tad short) dress to school, but people are starting to wear their leggings when they don’t really even have to. Why not just get some black (non see-through) tights instead? They go all the way around your foot and don’t show any leg, but are still stylish. A long colored peacoat with black tights and pumps or even booties would look fantastic. Here are some pictures from Versace’s fall collection that will prove my side of the debate that tights just look better than leggings:

See what I mean?

How hot are those outfits with tights? Obviously tights are going to be a successful fall trend, and I hope you ladies will see to it that they are.

Well guys I hope you were able to bear with me throughout my first blog and hope that you will check out some of the site’s other blogs as well. Check back often for more updates from me, your personal male fashion guru!

Later Guys!

Welcome to LuxBuzz!

Everyone has a blog: fashion blogs, celebrity gossip blogs, beauty blogs, shopping finds blogs, personal blogs, etc. They are all fun to read, but I have yet to find a blog that covers everything from reviewing books and music to the latest runway shows and beauty products.

Hence LuxBuzz, your new favorite site! Bookmark the page, because it will be updated everyday!

I am the administrator and founder of the site. I’m just a regular teen from Michigan. My hobbies include poring over magazines, watching movies, reading, writing, shopping, finding good deals, my pink i-pod, all among other things!

I have a team of three other contributors, all of whom are from different areas all over the U.S, and all with different perspectives on styles, trends, music, movies, everything!

We hope to be the ‘go-to’ site for teens everywhere.

So visit everyday for the latest LuxBuzz!
