90’s Flashback(street boys)?

Friday, August 31st, 2007

This just in: the boy band sensation that started it all back in the day are apparently coming back…yet again.

We all remember the sorry comeback a few years ago. Yeah, it just didn’t quite work.

But apparently, the original Backstreet Boys: A.J. McLean, Brian Littrell, Howie Dorough, and 90’s heart throb Nick Carter are teaming up again, and just shot a video for “Inconsolable”, their new single.

Think something is missing? You are right. Kevin Richardson isn’t joining the boys for this endeavor. He really could be on to something there….

kr

Wow, they really won’t let go of the boy band fame. I mean, perhaps they should have taken a cue from N’SYNC. They broke up, but the individuals all are still welcome in the spotlight (think Joey, Justin, and Lance).

This news really takes me back. See below and feel free to reminisce the days of old.

Hmm. We shall see how this unfolds. The album is scheduled for an October 30th debut. You know LuxBuzz will be watching!

High School Musical Style

Thursday, August 30th, 2007

Hey Style Addicts!

Did you catch yourself on a Friday night watching High School Musical 2? I know I did! Some say it’s corny, I say it’s FABULOUS. Pun intended. Haha, did you also find yourself wondering where Sharpay got her gorgeous outfit? For me, it was Ryan, as you all know I’m a guy. Anyway, that’s where my search began. I looked high and low, side to side and FINALLY, I found an amazing article on what fashions the costume stylist Tom McKinley went looking for.

For Gabriella, McKinley looked for lots of lightweight sheer fabrics (in layers), dresses, flounces and ribbons, floral prints, capris, ballet slippers, and more. The stores he shopped at for Gabriella included American Eagle, Juicy Couture, BCBG, Macys, and Bloomingdales.

For Sharpay, McKinley wanted to go for a dramatic and wealthy look. He claimed he just mixed Paris Hilton and Barbie todether for inspiration. Her look includes metallics, glitter, sequins, hoop earrings, bold colors (pink and gold), cropped jackets, high heels, and bracelets and hair ornaments. He got most of these looks from stores like Betsey Johnson, Miss Sixty, BCBG, Bebe, Marciano, and Rampage.

For Ryan, McKinley bought only trousers, no jeans, hats, preppy knits, and collared shirts with bold geometric patterns. Most of these clothes came from Club Monaco, Armani Exchange, Ben Sherman, Macys, and Nordstrom

Troy’s style, says McKinley was that classic American guy style. He looked for stovepipe-legged denim, colorful tees, zip ups and hoodies, madras print shorts, and crew necks. He bought most of Zac’s clothing from Guess, French Connection, Vans, Diesel, Macys, Nordstrom, and American Apparel.

Well guys, I hope this helped some of you in your quest for those perfect gold skinnies Sharpay was wearing in the “What Time is It” video. Later!

Next Crash

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

Hey everyone! Happy241st day of 2007!

I constantly find myself in a sea of blogs. Recently, I discovered the very new www.nextcrash.com, a technology blog. The team at NextCrash writes about the latest in technology and then gives their input as to whether or not they think the particular technological endeavor will take off or crash and burn.

Some entries are a little over my head, but the site encompasses so many different subjects, I find myself really interested in quite a few articles, definitely including the latest post, which reviews free online music sites.

The authors all write in a very relaxed and simple prose, so a reader can easily skim through several articles in a small amount of time.

Check it out and tell us at LuxBuzz your thoughts. Any articles really interest you? Do you disagree with a NextCrash verdict? Let us know!

Andorra

Tuesday, August 28th, 2007

Caribou’s new album ‘Andorra’ certainly caught my attention. The album released just last week, August 21st. With a 60’s hippy vibe, the album features a calming mix of beautiful music. It is light and airy, yet perfect for fall.

The cover photography is simply gorgeous, and it is an alternative album that really evokes a feeling of peace. When the stress of getting back into school mode kicks in, this album will be a godsend. Pick it up on iTunes for only $9.99!

No image was available, but you will certainly be able to spot it easily on iTunes, for it is listed under new releases. Be sure to pick it up and tell us at LuxBuzz your thoughts on the album!

Monday, August 27th, 2007

My bath/shower must-haves all year long are definitely the Philosophy Bath & Shower Gels. With such a huge selection of delicious scents, I tend to pick up one or two bottles to match the season. My fall favorite? Cinnamon Buns! It smells so great and makes even the dullest fall day simply lovely and makes for an incredibly enjoyable bath or shower.

Mmm!

And in case you are wondering about the brand ‘philosophy’, I’m going to include, for your reading enjoyment, a bit of background on the brand!

“Delicious flavors, beautiful colors, and cute-as-punch packaging with inspirational messages aside, Philosophy has the hardcore medical research to put its money where its berry-stained mouth is. A pioneer in medically based skincare technologies, Cristina Carlino, Philosophy’s founder and CEO, also created Biomedic, a no-frills, high-tech skincare line formulated by some of the country’s most elite chemists and PhDs. Because its reputation within the medical community is so darn fabulous, Carlino is often approached by dermatologists requesting her help with the creation of their own lines.Philosophy believes that the best cosmetic is great-looking skin. Their collection of serious skin solutions, which run the gamut from cleansers to moisturizers, serums to scrubs, and sunblocks to skin peels, goes above and beyond the call of duty to deliver fast and effective results that leave you with radiant, makeup-optional skin. Their other collections—a signature line of festively flavored, willpower shower gels (Margarita, Pumpkin Pie, and Strawberry Milkshake to name a few), delightfully super-clean scents, some of the most un-makeup makeup around, and a one-of-a-kind gift assortment that celebrates the idea that every day is a holiday—complete their philosophy for an overall happier and healthier-looking you.  Many of beauty’s biggest trends can be traced back to Philosophy’s drawing board. The Cookbook, a collection of food-inspired body washes, kicked off a craze that revolutionized the way we shower, while Hope in a Jar, the cult-favorite facial moisturizer, helped kick-start the demand for a radiant complexion. The Gingerbread Man, a luxurious, gingerbread-scented shower scrub, which can be classified as a cult favorite, was among the first scrub to heat up as you rub.

Philosophy products make life’s daily necessities fun. Showering with sugar cookie-scented suds, spritzing a scent that stirs up a favorite memory, and getting a morning pep talk from your moisturizer jar is a philosophy everyone should believe in.”

Pick up your Philosophy Bath & Shower Gel at Sephora, Nordstrom, or Amazon.com.

Enjoy!

Internet Time Capsules

Sunday, August 26th, 2007

It sounds kinda geeky, but it’s actually pretty cool. EmailCapsules.com offers a way to reflect. On the site, you can write an email and have it sent to yourself in the future. These can be used to explore changes you’ve gone through. The first time I did it, I used it as a joke. Then I realized it could be used for better, more useful things. I decided to set out goals for my summer vacation. I recently received the email, as classes start Monday for me. Normally, I would forget all about my goals, but the email was a reminder that I actually made them. It also helped me realize I actually reached goals. It’s a good idea to make one of these e-capsules. Use it to describe how things are now, make predictions, set goals and explore your past and transitions.

Confessions of a Sugar Addict.

Saturday, August 25th, 2007

I am a sugar addict.

I’m not sure when it happened, but I think genes have a lot to do with the addiction. My mother is known to regularly buy bags of chocolates and finish them off in one sitting. It amazes me that even with such an addiction, she stays evenly a size six.

I suppose it started out as simply a love for chocolate. I would eat chocolate at least once daily. This habit morphed into several times daily, and then it became a full-fledged addiction to sugar. If I didn’t have chocolate on hand, I would have ice cream, cookies, cupcakes, anything!

But other than my addiction to sugar, my lifestyle is incredibly healthy. I exercise regularly, take vitamins, and eat well balanced vegetarian meals.

I’ve tried substitutes, like frozen grapes or sorbet to ice cream, but I always end up eating the substitute AND the offending food.

My latest obsession is Blue Diamond Chocolate Almond Milk. It tastes like a milkshake! The problem a sugar addict has with such a product? Portion control. I finished off a package of the stuff in one day.

So, this week I said, I will limit myself to one treat per day.

That didn’t work. I caved on the very first day (who could resist a good double chocolate brownie? Or two. Or three.)! With such serious risks like diabetes looming in front of me, you would think that is proof enough that my little sweet tooth is rather dangerous.

What is a sugar addict to do?

choco

Well, I’m off. There is a bag of chocolate chips waiting for me to devour them. Hmm.

resort ‘08…

Friday, August 24th, 2007

…Perfect for poolside lounging or that style pick-me-up you know you’ll need come February.

My favorite looks include Luca Luca’s easy, breezy chic (above) and Oscar de la Renta’s 60’s charm (below) — very La Dolce Vita. Other favorites include Valentino and Yves St Laurent.

On a not-so-side note, I’m leaving for a last week of summer getaway in Hawaii tomorrow. I’ll probably be channeling these chic St. Tropez looks in the street style snaps below:

The Future of Life

Thursday, August 23rd, 2007

Edward Wilson’s book “The Future of Life” is something everyone on this Earth should read.

Though said to be a scientific genius, Wilson wrote the book for general audiences and explains even the most basic biological terms. The book contains startling facts and figures that everyone living on this planet must be aware.

The book is rather short, only about 180 pages, followed by notes, an index, and a helpful glossary. It won’t take you long to read, and the impact that you as an individual can do to help preserve the environment and prepare it for future generations. The conditions of the natural world are spiraling downwards at a frightening pace, and this book explains the horror of what is happening, the ignorance of the human race, and what we can do about it.

The facts are startling and scary, but definitely evoked a feeling of responsibility to save our Earth. This book is an absolute must-read for all. If we don’t take action now, the future of life will be incredibly grim.

Pick up the book on Amazon.com or head to your local Barnes & Noble!

Enjoy the reading!

Fall Trend Alert: Patent Leather!

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007

Hey guys!

So, as I browse the diverse online market, I am seeing another trend EVERYWHERE: patent leather. Pretty much every website including Neiman Marcus, Saks, and even GAP have a section for browsing their unique patent goodies. I recommend taking a peek at their online boutiques if you can’t make it out of the house this weekend.

Patent leather is pretty much only available in accesories. This is a really good thing because I don’t want to see any Michael Jackson’s in patent leather suits walking around. Anyway, shoes, bags, and belts are all available this fall for your wearing pleasure. If you want to be that trendy girl in your school, add a large patent leather belt to a cute dress for an amazing urban appeal. Just remember girls, you don’t have to match your bag to your belt and to your shoes…don’t be wearing that much patent leather or people WILL think you’re Michael Jackson.

Anyways, I want to show you guys a few of my favorite goods in patent leather.

Heres a REALLY cute Tory Burch flat from Neiman Marcus:

And heres a Valentino bag from Neiman Marcus as well:

I know a lot of you guys can’t afford Valentino, but these pictures are just for inspiration. I know they will have cute patent leather accessories at stores like Express, GAP, and Traffic, so just keep an eye out!
